The Art Tax situation is still what it is…our school and our students are still receiving nothing from it. The Oregonian published this article explaining all the “surplus” art tax money and how it was spent…including almost half a million dollars to the Portland Art Museum! I think many of us would agree that we love the arts programs that Portland offers and are happy to support them, but it is a hard pill to swallow when none of the funding is going to our children, which is exactly who it was designed to support. Additionally, the Oregonian published this article regarding the situation we are in right now.
Parents from Ivy and from Southwest Charter School are invited to attend the Arts Education and Access Citizen Oversight Committee (AOC) meeting onFebruary 17th at 5:00 p.m. in the City Hall on the 2nd floor in the Lovejoy room to show their support of our school receiving this funding. Please wear Ivy t-shirts if you have them and feel free to make and bring signs as well. 1 or 2 people from each school will be speaking during the public comment section at the end of the meeting in regards to the situation we are dealing with and the committee will also be given a copy of the letter we sent to the mayor as well as copies of all the signatures in support of the letter. If you would like more information and/or if you are able to attend this meeting, please contact Leah Maurer. Thanks!
Wednesday, February 18th, is the deadline to have your child’s vaccines and immunizations up-to-date. You should have received a letter from the Oregon Health Authority if your student has incomplete or missing records. If your child’s immunizations are not updated by February 18th they will not be allowed to attend school. Please contact Ellen at Prescott orJillian at Morris to get your child’s records up-to-date.
